It will look like Earth has two moons on August 27

EARTH I just received an email with the following texts included. I don’t know, it’s true or false but I wonder it would be a great moment of a life if we could get the chance to have a glance of it through our naked eyes (I am not talking about nude eyes :)). I really love to read about astronomy, it was my favorite subject while I was in school, but the fact is I didn’t wrote any answers of astronomy in science subject’s exam in SLC because of lack of time. Dumb me.

I have posted the message same as it was in my inbox.

*Two moons on 27 August*

*27th Aug the Whole World is waiting for……… ….*

Planet Mars will be the brightest in the night sky starting August.

It will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye. This will cultivate on Aug. 27 when Mars comes within 34.65M miles off earth. Be sure to watch the sky on Aug. 27 12:30 am. It will look like the earth has 2 Moons. The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287.

But what I think is, it might be true. Because this kind of things might happen and even does happens in life. I remembered something, somewhere I have read that even earth will be vanished one day. And as everyone knows, nothing is constant in this life.

So, why not to believe? What will we loose if we believe? But I think if we will not believe, we will surely loose a beautiful honey night of the life.

I will be waiting for August 27. Will you?

Yeah, it was a hoax. Astronomer’s are referring to the email as “The Great Mars Hoax” or something similar to it. Have to think of the fact that if the moon has such great influence on the tides, just due to gravitational pull, that the planet Mars would cause absolute mayhem on Earth. For most it would literally be a once in a lifetime event as disasters would occur all across the globe. O.o Hmm. Interesting idea.

Would have been neat though, if it didn’t mean annihilation for so many people….

Yep. It was 27 August *2003*.

And it only looked like two moons if you were using a fairly powerful telescope.

But I hope you had a nice evening looking at a four year old hoax. Have you never heard of Snopes.com?

This is such a funny hoax, mars cant come within 34 miles of earth. It would have to come off orbit get closer than are moon and it would collide with us!!!
